The Spring

There is a secret message at the Lititz Springs Park. Do you know what it is?

The Lititz Springs Park bubbles with history. I enjoy history and am one of those annoying people who takes forever at a museum. Recently, I took a break from laundry and dishes to stroll through the town of Lititz, PA. One of my favorite sites to see is the park.

As I revisited this site of my childhood, I took time to soak in its backstory.

During a time of digging, three springs were uncovered which form the headwaters of the Lititz Run stream. What impressed me about this spring was the German inscription on the stone tablet, which, when translated, reads: “God’s Fount is Never Failing.”

I am reminded of Jesus’ statement: “Anyone who is thirsty may come to me! Anyone who believes in me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart'” (John 7:37-38).

What is this living water? The following verse explains: “When he said ‘living water,’ he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him” (John 7: 39).

What does it look like to have “rivers of living water” flowing from my heart?

Is it possible that sometimes I put too much emphasis on my own strength, rather than leaning upon the living water of Christ’s Spirit in me?

The Lititz Spring reminds me that God’s fountain is never failing.
His fountain of abundant life never fails.
His fountain of forgiveness never fails.

His fountain of purpose, joy, peace, love, hope. . . is overflowing.

Are you thirsty?

Will you drink from the Fountain of Living Water that never fails?

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven,

We are tired of the broken world we see around us. Our souls are thirsty. We have tried to find peace in things, but now we choose to come to You-the only fount that can satisfy. With open hands we receive Your grace. With open hands we receive Your life-giving water of abundant life. No matter what trials we endure, no matter what sickness comes upon us, we choose to rest our weary hearts in Your peace that passes all human understanding.
