Caution: This blog contains traumatic events from history

“The worst accident in Lancaster County’s history” took place in this ravine over 100 years ago.” More than a ton of dynamite accidentally detonated. The explosion obliterated buildings and vaporized eleven men . . . .The explosion broke windows 1.5 miles away and could be heard as far away as 15 miles” (Uncharted Lancaster). Today this place of tragedy has transformed into a magical place of beauty.

That is what God does with our trauma; He takes the pain and sorrow from our past and transforms it. Through the trauma, we become overcomers and are able to comfort others.

What kind of transformation is God doing in your life?

Prior to our walk at Shenks Ferry, we attended the Grace Community Church in Willow Street. After the service, we discovered that the woman sitting directly in front of us was someone we knew from years ago. She shared how Sean and I taught her niece in Sunday school and that the class had a great impact on her niece’s life. Sean and I taught that class over twenty years ago. How encouraging to hear that we touched the life of that young student. I wonder how she is doing now?

Do you doubt that God can use you? Do you feel too broken to serve God? Is it possible that God can take the pain and sorrow you are enduring to transform you and make you a blessing to the body of Christ?

“And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit” (2 Cor. 3:18 NIV)

Prayer

Father God,

You are an amazing Creator. Each flower is a reflection of Your artistry. Each life you transform radiates Your power. We wait for you to change and mold us. We look to you to carry us through the painful hardships of our lives and bring us into a place of peace. Today we choose to lean into Your strength to get us through any difficulty we are facing. Today we choose to lift our faces to the Son and push our roots deeply into Your nourishing Word.
