The Healer’s Touch

Rarely have I so clearly sensed God’s leading as I did with this trip.

Walking into the Christiana Care building, I see an unusual sculpture with the title- The Healer’s Touch. Made by artists from Zimbabwe, this sculpture honors all who bring their healing touch to those who are suffering. Today, I bring my hands to comfort Richard, a dear relative, who is about to leave our world and enter eternity.

Rarely have I so clearly sensed God’s leading as I did with this trip. I knew that God wanted me to bring comfort to this dying man, and, in so doing, the Heavenly Healer planned to bring comfort to me as well.

As I walk down the sterile hallways, the sights and smells bring back another time-a time when my father was sick in the hospital. I spent many hours in the waiting room during his trial of sickness, but was not with him during his final days.

Letting Go

God led me to this hospice building in Delaware so that I could bring closure to my grieving journey.

As I rub his feet, the tears flow freely. My love for Richard mixes with my love for my father and creates a spiritual incense which permeates the air. God, the Gentle Healer, brings comfort to my spirit through this act of love.

How curious that through my act of service, God guided me through my own grieving process.

Thank you, Gentle Healer, for your loving touch during our times of loss.

Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. (Psalm 11:29 NIV)
