Sitting in my room, I feel the resentment creep into my chest. Sean and I just returned from a romantic get-away for our 28th wedding anniversary. After a short time in our house, a darkness pulls me into its web, luring me to return to those oppressive feelings of bitterness. Whoa! What is going on?
There is a dark side and a dark lord that seeks to destroy our souls. He especially hates all who are Christ-followers, making them at the top of his hit list. Our adversary will use all sorts of problems to derail our faith and destroy our families.
During my days of battle, I ask Sean to pray and confess the turmoil in my soul. Together we fight with prayer against the foe. Yet later on in the week, the darkness again seeks to capture me. Again we pray.
Counseling is good. Therapy is good. But there is a spiritual dynamic that must be addressed for healing to take place.
We are in a battle. We have an enemy that wants to destroy us. How do we combat such a foe? On our knees!
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Eph 6:11-12)
Prayer
Father God,
In Your strength we defeat the dark side. In Your power we are victorious over our fears. With confidence in Your promises, we raise our shields of faith against all the fiery darts of the evil one. We plant our feet firmly in Your Word and take our stand against the devil’s schemes. Through Christ we are more than conquerors!
In Jesus’ name,
Amen
Shout-out to Olivia and all who serve on the worship team. This Sunday they sang the song “Battle Belongs.” I often shout this song as my battle cry! So thankful for those who serve on the worship team and lead us to the throne of God through music.
