During the COVID pandemic, our eldest son graduated from Boot Camp. The ceremony took place in San Antonio, Texas. We surprised our son by bringing along his fiance. He thought she was unable to make the trip and was shocked to find her waiting for him in the lobby of our hotel.
As our family toured San Antonio, we discovered a bridge covered in hundreds of locks. The bridge is located across the street from the Courthouse Wedding Chapel. Following the wedding cermony, newlyweds will secure a lock to the bridge, kiss, and then throw the key into the river. This tradition symbolizes their love for each other.
Security in love, something we all long for in our closest relationships. What about our relationship with God? Are we secure in His love?
As a young child I gave my heart to Jesus, but I did not feel secure in my relationship with God. Instead, I spent many years fearing that I would loose my salvation. My mind was plagued with doubts. “What if I forget to confess all my sins before I go to sleep? What if I committed the unpardonable sin?” Thoughts like these tormented me and I lived in bondage to fear.
While I was in Bible College, I read a passage of Scripture that changed my perspective.
“He (Christ) will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ” (I Cor. 1:8-9).
I realized that it is the work of Christ that keeps me strong to the end. It is Christ who saved me and Christ who keeps me. My salvation is secure in Christ. I can’t express the weight off my shoulders when that truth made sense to me.
Do you struggle with fearful thoughts about losing your salvation? God wants His children to feel secure in His love.
Good Morning Heavenly Father,
I pray especially for the reader who is bound by fear. The one who has given their life to you, but does not feel safe and secure in their salvation. I pray today they would understand that their salvation is based on your power and not theirs. You are the author and the finisher of our faith. Our hope is You!
