The Park

Are you thirsty? Do you long for something to change?

Written by Tina Kramer

Scene 1

Vision

It is just another swamp- a muddy, messy swamp.

But someone sees a possibility.

Someone has a vision-

a vision of transformation.

The vision is shared.

Soon others are inspired and grab their shovels.

Together they carry piles of dirt, plant trees, and form pathways.

Together they install benches, hammer pavilions, and build playgrounds.

Slowly, the muddy mess morphs into a place of beauty and joy.

Ducks paddle in the stream.

Couples hold hands as they meander on the path.

Children giggle on the swings while mothers chat on the bench.

A metamorphosis has occurred.

A piece of land has been transformed.

Why?

Because someone saw potential.

Scene 2

Thirsty

She is like that swamp.

Others gossip about her past.

It is messy,

marred by bad choices and destructive consequences.

But there is Someone who sees a possibility.

Someone has a vision-

a vision of transformation.

She is thirsty.

He offers her springs of living water.

A transformation takes place that day:

For the thirsty woman,

For her thirsty friends,

For her thirsty neighbors.

Scene 3

Potential

The next time you see a life that is messy,

will you see a problem or a possibility?

Will you predict trouble or transformation?

Swamps can become parks.

Broken people with messy lives can be transformed into something beautiful and full of joy.

Jesus sees potential.

What do you see?

This story was inspired by the history of the Lititz Springs Park and the woman at the well in John 4.

Prayer

Good Morning Father God,

Forgive us for the times we judge others as beyond hope.

Sometimes we view ourselves as too broken for You to use. Fill our hearts with great expectations of transformation. If You could use the woman at the well, then You can use us, too.

Thank You for the people reading this blog. Help them to see their lives through Your eyes- lives filled with promise and possibilities!

Time to Sing

I remember singing this song at Rock Church in Virginia Beach in Sunday School.
